Bell Tower Shops changes in the works following deadly shooting

Bell Tower Shops in south Fort Myers is known for shopping, dining and nightlife but recently became a target for a shooting that left two people dead.

Now, residents say they are hesitant when making plans there and are concerned for their safety.

Bell Tower Shops are still advertising a big makeover this winter.

“It’s changing and it’s in transformation but it’s not so good,” said Tate Chapin. He says he used to love shopping at the Bell Tower Shops. “We don’t go there as much anymore. Because we’re concerned about safety.”

This past Saturday, deputies arrested a former corrections officer for indecent exposure in the ULTA parking lot.

A police report says that around 5:15, a woman saw him fondling himself inside his car without pants on.

A 16-year-old girl saw the whole thing.

“I was thinking ‘oh my god, I go here all the time, I stop here all the time,'” said Cathy Horgan, a Bell Tower shopper and a grandmother.

“They should up security to the malls and public places,” she said. “I don’t see security. I was looking when I came in, it’s pretty wide open.”

The family of the two who were shot in front of the Bell Tower Shops are suing.

Bell Tower released a statement saying they are working closely with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on the indecent exposure case and that security and safety of everyone working and shopping is their highest priority.
