News Philosophy

The more you know about your community, the stronger and healthier it can become! That’s why I believe in local news - energizing and empowering a community is valuable. It can lead to meaningful change and a deeper understanding of your neighbors (allowing you to help them overcome the challenges they face, and share in their successes).

Hobbies, Interests & Community Involvement

Let’s lace up those sneakers, throw on some sunscreen, and get outside! Whether it’s hitting the pavement for a jog, strapping on a helmet and biking a new trail, or strolling through southwest Florida’s great outdoors - that’s where I want to be. Another interest? Cats! Don't ask me about mine unless you're prepared for a lengthy slideshow.

Face shields more effective than masks, study shows

There may be something even more effective than a mask when it comes to protecting yourself and others from COVID-19. “We kind of feel helpless. And for me, to get that little piece of control back – helping the community is kind of how I do that,” said Ashley Pangold of Port Charlotte. When coronavirus […]

Consensus on masks for protection against COVID-19 remains up in the air

Despite the rising number of coronavirus cases across Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis remains firm masks in the sunshine state are optional. This comes as more evidence suggests wearing masks could help slow the spread. And local businesses are stuck in the middle of these changing and conflicting reports. Monday, we heard from a former FDA […]

Is Florida the country’s next pandemic epicenter?

Florida set another record for new COVID-19 cases in a single day Thursday, with 3,207 reported. It came just hours after researchers said the state could become the pandemic’s next epicenter. The state has overall reported nearly 86,000 positive cases of the coronavirus since March. For the past nine days, the average has been on […]

Masks can limit person-to-person spread of COVID-19, doctor says

COVID-19 cases are going up across the country. At least 19 states have seen an increase in cases reported daily in the last two weeks, and six states have reported a record number, including Florida. As states continue to reopen, more and more people are meeting face to face, whether it’s at the grocery store […]

Hendry County is a COVID-19 hot spot, health pros confident community will pull through

Hendry County is being considered a hot spot for the coronavirus. Florida Department of Health say only 10% of the population has been tested, but there are nearly 660 cases. We looked at why the county is seeing this trend with COVID-19 Tuesday. “Residents in these communities are very proud and self-sufficient,” said R. D. […]

Surgeon General encourages masks, says wearing them will give ‘more freedom’

U.S. Surgeon General said Sunday that wearing masks actually promotes freedom and keeps people safe when venturing out. In downtown Fort Myers, many people aren’t wearing masks and a lot of people don’t wanna talk about why. But one man said it’s simple: He wears a mask for his daughter. “I’ve got a daughter that […]

Number of COVID-19 tests keeps state senior homes from reaching deadline

Friday was the state’s deadlines for all nursing homes in the state to have staff and resident tested for the coronavirus. But we learned that goal has not been reached. “Today was the goal to get all long-term care facility residents and staff tested,” said Kristen Knapp, the director of communications at Florida Healthcare Association. […]

Robotic pets help seniors feel less lonely during isolation

Self-isolation during COVID-19 is creating a lot of feelings of loneliness in the community, especially for senior citizens. Having a furry friend around can help, but not everyone can handle a traditional pet. The solution? Robotic dogs and cats. “Fluffy” barks, pants, yawns, whines, growls and wags his tail. Most importantly, he keeps Dolores Fell […]
