A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after deputies say he was caught bicycling away from the scene of a burglary off Santa Barbara Boulevard while carrying stolen items.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Dalvis Duarte-Perez, 35, was arrested after deputies were called at around 4:45 a.m. to a report of a residential burglary. The victim told them she saw a man in a black hooded sweatshirt with a backpack on her lanai. The man ran away, taking a sound bar with him.

Minutes later, deputies found Duarte-Perez on a bicycle, matching the description of the suspect. Deputies say he was wearing a backpack and carrying the stolen sound bar, a tool bag and a pair of jeans as he rode his bike along 32nd Avenue Southwest.

When Duarte-Perez saw the deputies, he dropped everything he was carrying and rode away a short distance before being caught and taken into custody. The victim told deputies the tool bag (which contained two Ryobi drills) and jeans belonged to her husband. Deputies also found a loaded handgun inside Duarte-Perez’s backpack.

Duarte-Perez, a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, faces charges of armed burglary of a dwelling, grand theft of a dwelling, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and failure to register as a convicted felon.
