Deadly crash Friday afternoon involving Lee County transit bus

A 77-year-old man died in a crash Friday afternoon involving a Lee County bus.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a sports car driven by a 77-year-old man from California was going west on Summerlin Road, attempting to turn left onto San Carlos Boulevard.

There was also a 76-year-old woman in the passenger seat inside the sports car.

The Lee County bus was going east on Summerlin Road nearing the San Carlos Blvd. intersection.

The sports car turned in front of the bus leading to the front of the bus crashing with the side of the sports car.

The 77-year-old man was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The 76-year-old woman was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center with critical injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
