Sunday brings above average heat; Tracking Invest 98L

High temperatures will reach the upper 80s and low-90s under partly cloudy skies. High humidity will make our “feels like” temperatures climb into the upper 90s in many spots.

Isolated storms are in Sunday’s forecast. After a few weak morning showers, better rain chances will form inland around lunchtime. These will eventually push towards the coastline by the late afternoon and early evening, weakening and disappearing after dark. Severe weather is not in Sunday’s forecast.

There are two active areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic. Each have high chances of formation within the next five days. However, the disturbance onto the northeast will pose no threat to the United States.

The broad area of low pressure north of Puerto Rico, now known as Invest 98L, will have a high (90%) chance of becoming a tropical storm within the next five days, and a high (70%) chance of formation by Tuesday. There is increasing confidence that we will see a tropical or subtropical storm from this system as it drifts westward toward Florida. Gusty winds and rainy conditions are becoming more and more likely for Southwest Florida. These conditions will arrive sometime within the window of Tuesday through Wednesday, and may last for a few days. This is NOT expected to become anything near the strength of a major hurricane like Ian or Irma. The next names on our 2022 Atlantic Storm Naming List are Nicole and Owen.
