Expect a stormy Tuesday after a mostly dry morning

High temperatures will extend into the upper 80s and lower 90s under partly cloudy skies. Ample humidity will make our “feels like” temperatures climb into the triple digits during peak heating. Boaters will find great conditions on the water, given they can dodge Tuesday’s storms. One- to 2-foot Gulf wave heights and a light chop within our bays are forecast.

Scattered storms are expected throughout the latter part of the day. After a few stray coastal showers in the morning, isolated thunderstorms will form during and after lunchtime. These will grow in strength and coverage into the late afternoon and evening before shifting inland after sunset. Rain chances will quickly begin dropping after sundown. Severe weather is not expected within these storms.

There are two areas of disturbed weather that The Weather Authority is monitoring in the tropics. One has a low (20%) chance of formation off the coast of Africa within the next five days. A second disturbance now has a low (30%) chance of becoming a named storm by Sunday. This system will be worth keeping an eye on. However, it is too early to pin down its potential path. The disturbance is roughly 3,000 miles away from Southwest Florida and poses no immediate threat to us. The next name on our 2022 Storm Naming List is Fiona.
