The Lee County School Board adopted the Parent’s Bill of Rights during their Tuesday meeting.

Considering all the opinions thrown at the Parents’ Bill of Rights, the discussion during the meeting was very tame.

And in a rare sight, the Lee County School Board was almost in total agreement.

When Superintendent Christopher Bernier recommended the board approve the Parents’ Bill of Rights, a hot topic in Southwest Florida, opposition was surprisingly scarce.

The policy states parents will be notified if there’s a change in their child’s services or monitoring related to their mental health, emotional health, physical health, or well-being and the school’s ability to provide a safe and supportive learning environment.

The board took her words into account but School Board Attorney Kathy Dupoy-Bruno explained the wording was specific to the official statute and not much could be changed.

With that clarified, the motion sailed through with the board voting 7-0.
