Storm chance Sunday afternoon; Tropics heating up

The Weather Authority expects typical August weather for your Sunday, with a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the 90s, and a chance of storms in the afternoon.

Sunday will start off nice with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

By the afternoon hours, temperatures will soar into the low to mid-90s, with the heat index back into the triple digits area-wide.

The heat will be enough to spark scattered storms in the afternoon and evening.

Looking ahead to the work week, expect daily storm chances across Southwest Florida. Otherwise, temperatures aren’t expected to budge much, with highs in the mid-90s and lows in the upper-70s.

It’s August, and right on cue, the tropics are coming alive.

A vigorous tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic could become our next named storm. Conditions are favorable, and the National Hurricane Center calls for a medium chance of a depression or tropical storm could forming over the next five days.

The next name on the list is Danielle.

It’s too early to speculate on any long-term track, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared as we rapidly approach the peak of the hurricane season.
