A Cape Coral man will serve up to 12 years in prison for beating his mother to death in 2020 after entering a plea of no contest to charges against him Tuesday.

Michael Tortolani, 28, did not contest charges of manslaughter, battery and drug possession, and faces 12 years in prison for manslaughter with credit for time served, five years for the possession charge and one year each for the two battery charges, all to be served concurrently.

Tortolani was arrested on Oct. 4, 2020, after police officers found his mother dead in a bathtub at a home in the 4800 block of Triton Court East in Cape Coral.

According to an affidavit, his mother once told a family friend that “she was afraid (Tortolani) would kill her one day.”
