FGCU is back in NCAA action. The men’s golf team is the first program to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

“We all have confidence and we believe in ourselves,” team captain Franki Capan says. “We were granted a special opportunity and earned our spot in regional and now it’s kind of when the real season starts.”

Capan spends most of his days out on the golf course and it’s paying off. Because now the FGCU Eagles are driving down the fairway to the NCAA Golf tournament.

This is the FGCU Golf team’s first time qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Although, the Eagles are ranked 51 so they have a lot of work to do.

“I don’t think it was much of a surprise,” Captain Capan says. “It was more of relief and the fact that we kind of redeemed ourselves after last year.”

“The tireless work effort, going to work out, going to class, getting schoolwork done, doing practices and qualifying, playing tournaments,” golf coach Andrew Danna said.

You play to win and in the tournament every swing matters.

“I know we will do everything we can to compete and make it count.” Coach Danna said.

While in unfamiliar territory Capan kept his cool.

“We’re going to be fine, we’re going to be just fine,” Capan told us.
