One person was hospitalized after a U-Haul crashes into a home off McGregor Parkway in south Fort Myers early Wednesday morning.

Dr. Jake Goldberger and his wife’s peaceful night’s sleep ended abruptly after a U-haul crashed into their home on Kasamada Drive.

“Both asleep my wife and I and the next thing I know there was a policeman knocking on my door,” Goldberger says, “telling him I need to get out there trying to put out a fire in a truck.”

Neighbor Garrett East was woken up by the commotion. “I was like Mom, Dad. Did you guys hear that? And they were sitting up in bed,” East says. “I was starting to walk out of the room, I saw smoke billowing up. So then I was like, oh, gosh, something smoking out there.”

“I think that’s residue from a tire that got on the fire,” Goldberger said.

Two people inside the cab were pulled out of the window by rescuers and one was taken to the hospital Goldberger said. Goldberger and his wife told us they are going to try and salvage anything they can and restore the garage.
