Deputies found the body of 34-year-old Sharese Bergeron at a home on Juanita Avenue.

A woman who deputies say tried to rob a taxi driver at a gas station was found dead of a gunshot wound on Juanita Avenue in south Fort Myers Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Sharese Bergeron attempted to rob a taxi driver at the pump of a Circle K on San Carlos Boulevard on April 23. The taxi driver shot Bergeron in the abdomen, who ran away from the scene and was located deceased at the house on Juanita Avenue.

The gas station was about half a mile away from the home where Bergeron was found.

Neighbors were startled to see the home surrounded by police.

Bergeron’s father came home from the hospital to find his daughter dead on the floor.

WINK News spoke to him that day.

“The door was wide open, I walk in and there’s a body on the floor, unrecognizable,” Dean Richardson said. “I just don’t want to believe it’s my daughter. I’m hoping it’s not. Hopefully, God can spare me from this.”

Bergeron has a lengthy arrest history in Lee County for crimes like burglary and battery on an officer, records show.

The shooting at the gas station is under review by the State Attorney’s Office.
