The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday that a drug bust led to a man being sentenced to 15 years in prison. WINK News first brought you this story when it unfolded back in 2018.

Lee County deputies arrested two people for cocaine possession after finding the drugs in their car during a traffic stop on the morning of November 13, 2018.

Deputies pulled over a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu near the intersection of Broadway Street and Palm Beach Boulevard just before noon.

The passenger in the front seat got out of the car and ran with a small handbag when the driver pulled to a stop. Deputies found him nearby in a wooded area.

A K9 unit located narcotics in the car, and detectives found 516 grams of cocaine in the bag near the wooded area that Lashawn Mitchell Williams ran to.

Williams, 43, the passenger, was arrested for trafficking cocaine and was then taken to the Lee County Jail.

After the arrest, the sheriff’s office worked with the State Attorney’s Office to build the case. However, Williams later pled guilty and received 15 years in prison.
