Suspect in custody amid shooting investigation on Glendale Avenue in Port Charlotte

A suspect is in custody as Charlotte County deputies investigate a shooting on Glendale Avenue in Port Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

Ralph A. Marok, 58, faces a charge of shooting into a vehicle or dwelling and criminal mischief under $200 in damage.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, callers notified dispatch they could hear a man screaming while he ran between homes in the 21000 block of Glendale Avenue.

No one was injured, deputies said.

Deputies said they found Marok, “who appeared irrational/” He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies found two guns and a total of 19 shell casings between the homes targeted.

Several vehicles and at least one window of a house were struck by the gunfire. The homes hit were occupied, deputies said. One person was sleeping inside of a room as a bullet came through the window.

Several firearms were taken from Marok’s home as the criminal investigation continues, the sheriff’s office said.

What happened left neighbors like Jackie Taylor with questions.

“It makes you wonder what’s going on, but we knew with the ambulance not being there, there was nobody hurt,” Taylor said.

Herman Fullen said there are lots of children in the area.

“I was worried about that,” he said.

Celinette Hernandez said her 8-year-old son woke her up when it happened.

“Two years I was living here and nothing happened. This is the first time it’s happened,” Hernandez said. “It’s really scary.”
