It’s like a scene out of a movie.

Dollar World in North Fort Myers was burglarized by someone who cut a hole in the wall from a neighboring apartment to get inside.

The burglar had to crawl on the floor to make his crime pay.

“I came in here, unlocked the door and turned off the alarm. And when I walked in, I noticed there was some money laying on the floor,” said Christina McKlveen. “I turned the lights on. And of course, I saw everything was ripped open.”

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers said the culprit made a hole in the wall of a vacant apartment located at the back of the store, crawled through, into the Dollar World bathroom, to the safe behind the register.

They tried to patch up the evidence but the nails are still loose. The burglary suspect made away with about $1,900 in cash.

The store has mirrors, motion detectors and security cameras in every corner of the store, so McKlveen is worried it was someone familiar with the store’s layout.

After McKlveen turned on the lights, she feared for her safety.

“I didn’t know if he was still in the store,” she said.

She said it was scary, adding, “I don’t know if they were armed or whatever. So I just wanted to get out of the store.”

She got out safely.
