Lee County has multiple improvements on the way, including a brand-new dog park and changes to make the new Big Carlos Pass Bridge more pedestrian-friendly.

$1 million of taxpayer money has been spent to build a dog park in Boca Grande, where the community has long been asking for one. It’s going to have areas for both big and small dogs, a dog-washing station and places for our four-legged friends to cool off.

Lee County Commissioner Brian Hamman says the demand for dog parks is growing nationally, and especially here in Southwest Florida. In their upcoming meeting, county commissioners are going to discuss giving the go-ahead for construction to begin.

“We have all sorts of regulations that we have to obey by, things that protect the public,” Hamman said. “I promise you when it’s done it’s going to be great, something the community has really been looking forward to.”

The big project is expected to take five months to complete.
