72-year-old man dies after Charlotte County crash

A 72-year-old Port Charlotte has died from his injuries a day after running a red light, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at 6:46 a.m. on Tuesday morning on Peachland Boulevard near Cochran Boulevard.

According to a news release, the 72-year-old man was traveling west on Peachland, approached a red traffic signal for Cochran Boulevard but disregarded it and entered the path of a second vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old North Port woman.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
