A Lee County student has been arrested after sending threatening text messages to a fellow student.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says on Oct. 7, 2021, while on a bus ride home from school, a student received several text messages from an unknown number. The sheriff’s office says the messages contained threats to shoot several students and rape another.

School Resource Deputies and Youth Services Detectives were notified and investigated the texts.

Their investigation led them to arrest a 12-year-old student who attends the same school as the victim.

That student is now facing a charge of sending a written or electronic threat.

In a statement on the arrest, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said, “My stance remains the same each and every day – if you make a threat of violence or bring a weapon to school, you will go to jail.”
