Motorcyclist killed, bicyclist critically injured in North Fort Myers crash

A motorcyclist was killed and an unidentified bicyclist critically injured in a crash at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Pine Island Road in North Fort Myers on Monday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 39-year-old man from North Fort Myers was traveling east on a motorcycle in the outside lane of Pine Island Road, approaching the intersection of Woodward Avenue around 8 p.m. A bicyclist was traveling south on Woodward Avenue, crossing Pine Island Road from the north side of the intersection, when he entered the path of the motorcycle was struck by it.

The motorcycle overturned after impact, throwing off the driver, who landed in the eastbound travel lane. He was declared dead at the scene. The bicyclist landed in the intersection and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition; his positive identification is pending.
