A man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to burglarize guest rooms at a Naples hotel on Tuesday.

The Naples Police Department arrested 37-year-old Christopher Cabrera at around 3:15 p.m. after reports of a man trying to break into guestrooms at the Naples Hyatt House through the balcony, according to an arrest report.

The hotel is located at 1345 5th Ave. S. in Naples.

The hotel manager told officers that the suspect dove into the bushes before officers arrived after the manager had spotted him on the balcony of a room that was not his own.

Police found the suspect on the sidewalk next to the Hyatt property lying flat on his back in an attempt to conceal himself from hotel management and the officers.

NPD dispatch confirmed Cabrera was on conditional release for a robbery.

A guest reported that she saw Cabrera jump onto a room’s balcony after which he told her he was “doing military stuff” before jumping to the other nearest balcony.

Cabrera was not a guest at the hotel.

Cabrera is in custody at the Collier County Jail and faces charges of unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and violation of parole.

The manager of the Hyatt House  said he was not allowed to speak on camera, but called confronting Cabrera his “hero moment.”

The sentiment from people nearby in Tin City was that it was an isolated incident in a very safe place.

“It seems so clean and safe, but no matter where you go, it could happen,” said Joseph Conoscenti, who is visiting Naples from New York.

“It makes us very sad because it seems such a safe city, beautiful city,” said Doreen Conoscenti, also visiting.

Juliana Boinicanu said she is flabbergasted.

“Wow, that’s pretty wild, hard to believe people are doing stupid things like that,” said Rainy Hetu, of Naples.

The Collier County shows a long list of violent, criminal history for Cabrera, including a 2012 armed bank robbery at a Wells Fargo. Police said Cabrera showed signs of mental illness when he was arrested.

In court on Wednesday, Cabrera was a no-show, but the judge set bail at $100,000.
