A Fort Myers motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a van in San Carlos Park on Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 22-year-old motorcyclist was traveling east on Alico Road around 7:45 p.m., approaching Phlox Drive at a high rate of speed. A van driven by a 62-year-old Fort Myers man was traveling west on Alico Road, in the left turn lane. The van attempted to turn left onto Phlox Drive in front of the approaching motorcycle, which then collided with the van.

The impact threw the 22-year-old from his motorcycle. He was declared dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in traffic crashes citing Marsy’s Law.
