Two North Port High School students were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street Wednesday morning.

According to the North Port Police Department, two teenage girls, 14 and 15 years of age, who attend North Port High School were struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Chamberlain Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue around 6:40 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene. NPPD and North Porth Fire Rescue responded. Both students were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital; the 14-year-old had relatively minor injuries and the 15-year-old was a trauma alert. The preliminary investigation by NPPD indicates that the driver is not at fault, as the students were struck while crossing the street in an unmarked intersection, giving little to no time for the driver to react.

These are the only details releasable at this time. We will have more information when available and appropriate.
