A Fort Myers Beach man has pleaded guilty to stealing Irma recovery funds.

Roberto Armando Mimmo, 60, faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

A sentencing date has not been set yet.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Mimmo applied for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Irma claiming his houseboat sank due to the storm.

But investigators found his boathouse had actually sank months prior to Hurricane Irma striking Southwest Florida.

Mimmo was issued more than $35,000 for home repair.
