More than 100 people gathered in Cape Coral to celebrate the first day of Chanukah. The Chabad in Cape Coral is located along Cape Coral Parkway.

A menorah lighting ceremony was held earlier in the evening.

The people attending say this festival is shedding light on their religious beliefs. Russell Krakow lives in Cape Coral.

“It shed light onto the world and right now at this time more than ever we need a lot of light to help get rid of evil and to show the positivity in life,” said Krakow.

Cynthia Fairman lives in Fort Myers. “Judaism we don’t get as much recognition as um Christmas time and Hanukkah so making sure that we reach others about Judaism and our religion is so important,” said Fairman.

The first candle was lit on Sunday night which marks the first day of celebration.
