One driver was killed while another driver and passenger were critically injured in a collision on SR-29 in Collier County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 58-year-old Naples man with a 60-year-old Naples woman as a passenger was driving an SUV south in the northbound lane of SR-29, north of I-75, around 4:30 p.m. Another SUV, driven by a 28-year-old Immokalee man, was traveling north in the northbound lane of SR-29, north of I-75. The second SUV swerved left to avoid a head-on collision, and the first SUV swerved right.

The front left of the first SUV collided with the front right of the second. The first SUV came to rest off the roadway, in the grass west of SR-29. The other came to rest on the SR-29 travel lanes and became engulfed in flames. The Immokalee man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger from naples were transported to Broward General Hospital in critical condition. The crash remains under investigation.
