A Port Charlotte man was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a shooting in a residential neighborhood in Charlotte County.

Duane Roderick Lynch, 38, was found guilty in October of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting at or within a dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Lynch is also facing charges for a November stabbing of a fellow inmate at the Charlotte County Jail as he awaited his sentence.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, in 2019, Lynch drove his pickup recklessly down a residential street where children and adults were playing basketball.

Adults in the area told him to slow down, so he parked his truck and confronted them by pulling a gun from his waistband and waving it around.

He then got back into his truck and drove it away while firing out of his window.

One man was shot in the leg and a nearby house was hit more than 10 times, according to the state attorney’s office.
