A plan that involved building a warehouse near a quiet community is currently on hold.

The building developer told Cape Coral City Council that it needed more time to work on a  proposal. This delay also gives those who live nearby more time to prepare for the construction.

This development is located along SW Pine Island Road near the Sandoval Community in Cape Coral. Residents of the Sanvodal Community say they moved there to get away from the noise, the traffic and the lights that living closer to downtown brings.

Now that the project is on hold, it gives these people more time to ask important questions.

You won’t see any construction on that piece of land for now. The site of a warehouse building project is now on hold. That warehouse was supposed to be 181,500 square feet in size.

Kevin Meier lives in the community next to the proposed warehouse. “I don’t think it’s fully detailed what the impact is, you know. What their full intent is for that facility because it could be trucks today, it could be drones tomorrow,” Meier said.

Seefried Development is a company that is known for building Amazon Distribution Centers. Seefried didn’t show up to a meeting with Cape Coral City Council in order to spend more time working on its proposal.

Meier is worried about the possible increase in traffic and noise that a new development brings. “You’re going to have truck traffic at 1:30 in the morning. That’s probably going to be noisy and they’re backing up and you get the beep beep beep,” said Meier.

Other people want to see the warehouse come to the area and bring jobs with it. Chris Snyder is one of them. “We need jobs. We need jobs for those people that are moving here,” he said.

Snyder has lived in Cape Coral for almost 30 years and has enjoyed watching the city grow. He hopes it continues. “Hopefully, they’ll keep um…generate good people coming here and good workers. Make an honest living. That’s all you can hope for,” said Snyder.

Meier also has concerns about the animals in his backyard. He believes his cows and eagles would be displaced by the construction.
