A 5-year-old girl has died in the hospital after being hit while riding her scooter.

This happened near the intersection of Castleview Drive and Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers just before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 91-year-old man was traveling north on Castelview Dr. in an SUV. The 5-year-old girl was standing with her scooter on the left side of the intersection. Then, FHP says, the little girl on the scooter darted into the roadway attempting to cross the road. The left front side of the SUV hit the little girl.

That 5-year-old girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition. FHP said she died in the hospital on Sunday.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in traffic crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
