Man arrested for January hit and run that left 2 people seriously hurt in Fort Myers

DeSoto County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested the man Fort Myers police say is responsible for a hit and run that took place in Fort Myers in January leaving two people with serious injuries.

Fort Myers police say Roberto Silva, 29, was arrested on a felony warrant for the hit and run by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

According to police, Silva left a restaurant on Cleveland Ave. on the night of January 11, 2021. They say he may have been intoxicated at the time and hit a sign at the business before speeding away.

Police say Silva then hit the back of another vehicle that was approaching a red light near Cleveland Ave. and Carrell Road. They say Silva fled the scene on foot.

The car that Silva hit had three people inside. Police say two of them suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.

Fort Myers police say they were initially unsuccessful in locating Silva after the crash and turned the case over to traffic investigators.

Silva is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injury and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

He is being held in the DeSoto County Jail until he can be extradited to Lee County.
