The 2020 presidential election led to misinformation and mistrust in our electoral system. Supervisors of elections in Southwest Florida are reassuring voters their ballots will be safe.

Almost a year later and some people still have questions about the 2020 election. Chief among them was there voter fraud? Tommy Doyle, supervisor of elections in Lee County said, “we’ve done an audit and it was fine. There’s nothing on statute that calls for a forensic audit. But we do testing beforehand and we do an audit after the elections.”

Doyle said over the course of several weeks his office tested the accuracy of the voting machines.

And that testing is open to the public.

Voter Carl Cacace is happy to hear it. “You have to keep on top of local officials and stuff like that. If you feel there’s something fishy going on you have to make sure they account for it. Make sure your vote counts.”

None of Florida’s 67 counties reported any sign of fraud, but that hasn’t stopped people from questioning the results.

Jennifer Edwards, supervisor of elections for Collier County said, “we met with people that have concerns. But there’s no basis to their allegations.”

Edwards said her fear is that just the hint something was wrong could cause voters to stay home the next time around, and that’s not right.

“If you have any concerns please get in touch with us. We’ll be glad to give you a tour and answer questions. Our goal is to build confidence in the election process,” said Edwards.

Tommy Doyle, supervisor of elections in Lee County said, “if they want to have their voice heard, they need to go vote.”

Both Collier and Lee County supervisors of elections offer tours of their facilities so if you have any questions you can go to them for answers.
