Governor Ron DeSantis held a news conference in Venice alongside Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin Thibault, and VISIT Florida President & CEO Dana Young.

During the news conference at Tervis Headquarters in Venice, the governor touted high job growth and low unemployment numbers – Tervis is a retailer of plastic drinkware, including tumblers, mugs & water bottles.

DeSantis also highlighted concern over inflation while reiterating that Florida’s ports are open for business to encourage more shipments to enter the state – avoiding busier ports along the U.S. West Coast.

“The secret is out about this part of the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “So we’re going to continue to make sure that Florida is open free and built for opportunity.”

Of the 195,000 jobs created nationwide in September, 88,000 of them were created in Florida alone he said.

Janeth Castrejon with CareerSource of Southwest Florida said, “There is a variety of jobs all the way from clerical to labor, for example, in construction, middle management, and upper management.”

And there are plenty of jobs still to be filled.

Patricia Santos moved from Clewiston to Fort Myers recently to find a new career.

“I want to go back to nursing school,” she said. “I want to work in a hospital or nursing home.”
