Motorcyclist killed in overnight crash on US-41 in Collier County

Just before 1 a.m on Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash between an SUV and motorcycle on US-41 south at the intersection with Broward Street.

Troopers say the car was travelling towards the intersection and had a green light when it turned left, in front of the motorcycle that was travelling north and also had a green light. They say the motorcycle hit the side of the SUV, causing its rider to be knocked off.

According to troopers, the motorcyclist, a 60-year-old from Naples, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers have not released his identity.

The SUV involved in the crash was being driven by a 17-year-old from Naples. Troopers say there was also a 16-year-old passenger. They say neither teen was hurt, and have not said if either will face any charges.
