A search warrant conducted by the North Port Police Department leads to the arrest of 57-year-old Douglas Ben Sanders for possession of inappropriate material involving children.

According to an affidavit, police were alerted to the possible possession of child pornography by his girlfriend. She told police that she found evidence of what she believed to be child pornography on his phone, leading her to search his home where she says she found more inappropriate photos of girls she believed were underage.

Based on the information provided by Sanders’ girlfriend, police conducted a search warrant at his home on Joppa Street in North Port. Police say they found approximately 300 printed photos in a safe inside Sanders’ closet and more than 30,000 digital images of underage people on one of the hard drives found in the same location. Police did not say how many hard drives were found.

Sanders is facing 40 felony counts of possession of child pornography and is being held without bond in the Sarasota County Jail.
