Woman killed in early morning hit-and-run crash in Lehigh Acres

One woman was killed and a second person injured after a hit-and-run crash in Lehigh Acres Sunday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by a 39-year-old-man was heading west on SR-82 approaching Ray Avenue S just before 3 a.m. There was one passenger, a 42-year-old woman; both are from Fort Myers.

While the unknown driver of a second vehicle turned left from eastbound SR-82 onto Ray Ave. S., the 39-year-old man ran a red light.

The two vehicles collided, and the 42-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and later pronounced dead at Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene and was possibly picked up in a white pickup truck.
