Our largest health care system in the area is about to get even bigger.

Lee Health is preparing for its future needs, as well as Southwest Florida’s.

The health care system bought nearly 22.7-acres of land off SW Pine Island Road near Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral, anticipating growth in the area.

“Our Coconut Point location has transformed the delivery of health services for residents of South Lee County, and we project that this location will do the same for Cape Coral,” Lee Health spokesman Jonathon Little said in a statement. “Currently, Lee Health Coconut Point is meeting 90+% of the healthcare needs in the Estero-Bonita Springs area, which is also our goal for the Pine Island location. We will provide more details as we finalize plans to expand access to health care services in Cape Coral.”

While it’s too early to say what will be built on the site, the chief financial officer expects it to be similar to Coconut Point’s facility in Estero, with doctors’ offices, diagnostic testing, and other health care services.

Lee Health paid $3.7 million for the land.
