A child has serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle near Ceitus Parkway and El Dorado Boulevard South in Cape Coral, police confirmed Thursday. The driver did not stop at the scene.

CCPD canvassed the area for more information about the vehicle and driver after the crash. A broken mirror from the suspect vehicle was one of the only initial clues for investigators to look at.

“It’s absolutely horrible. Knowing that you can’t trust people to stop, as a father, is maybe one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever heard,” Robert Moore said. “That poor child is going to have to deal with that for the rest of their life.”

Moore is a dad and a hit-and-run survivor. He was in the fifth grade when he had his experience.

“Didn’t get a lot of injuries from it, but I still flew over the top of the car, and I still remember seeing the taillights and seeing him drive away,” Moore explained.

Knowing the same thing happened in his neighborhood, Moore told us he worries about his four kids and the other children who live up and down El Dorado.

“I wish the city would take it upon themselves on these main roads to start putting in sidewalks because you’re finding, some of these kids, they’re either walking in the grass, or they have to walk in the street because it’s muddy outside,” Moore said.

Cleveland Grable agrees. He lives around the corner and also has four children.

Between the lack of sidewalks, lack of streetlights and speeding cars, Grable said he’s scared to let his kids walk to a bus stop.

“They will never take the bus for this exact reason,” Grable said. “The level of irritation with the city and not doing anything. When is enough, enough? How many kids have to die or get hurt?”

There is no further information at this time.
