A 15-year-old teen boy has been arrested for his involvement in the case of an accidental shooting and death of a 9-year-old.

The 9-year-old was shot by a child under the age of 10. The teen arrested was not the shooter.

The child-shooter found a gun in a backpack sitting on the floorboard in the back of the car. That backpack belonged to the 15-year-old facing charges.

The child pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting a sibling next to them.

The shooting occurred at the Columbus Square Shopping Center at 3513 Fowler Street.

The shooting happened inside of a vehicle parked at the shopping center, while one adult in the car went inside Little Caesars to pick up a pizza.

According to Fort Myers police, warrants were obtained for the teen’s arrest stemming from the shooting on April 25. He faces charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor.

No further information is known at this time.
