A Lee County school bus driver WINK News first reported on earlier this month, has lost his battle with COVID-19.

Jay Figueroa was a bus driver for The School District of Lee County, and he was fighting COVID-19 for weeks in the hospital.

Figueroa’s family confirmed his death to WINK News on Wednesday morning.

His wife Sandra Figueroa thinks her husband contracted the virus on the job.

“He’s like a big guy,” Sandra said in our previous interview, “He comes from New Jersey, New York.”

And he has a big heart.

“He liked doing the problem kids because he could connect with them. And kind of, you know, uplift them. He always gave out lollipops. Everybody loved him.” She added.

That love came from the students riding bus 2933. Figueroa was the driver getting them to and from school every day.

Figueroa’s family did confirm he had not been vaccinated for COVID-19.
