A shooting at a Cape Coral home on Monday left one person dead.

Cape Coral police say someone has been detained but they are not releasing many details about the shooting in the 1200 block of SW 18th Avenue.

Neighbors say two men lived in the house.

One of the men is now in jail on a weapons charge,

The other man, the owner of the house, Cape Coral police will not talk about.

Police are calling it a death investigation.

Tuesday morning, in court, William Reese faced a judge for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Neighbors say Reese lives at the home.

“He is the primary suspect of an open investigation that started in Cape Coral this morning at 3 a.m. where there was a deceased 90-year-old man found with him. That current homicide investigation is ongoing. I just hope that this be taken into consideration when considering his option for today,” a Cape Coral detective told a judge on Tuesday morning.

Cape Coral police have confirmed Reese is a person of interest in the homicide.

Reese is no stranger to law enforcement.

Reese has 16 prior convictions.

He is currently on probation for selling fake insurance to the owner of 2 Brothers Homestyle Cooking in Charlotte County. By the time the owner realized it was fake, it was too late, his restaurant was destroyed by a fire.

The judge ordered that Reese be held without bond.
