Your drive through downtown Fort Myers will look very different in a year: Both 1st Street and 2nd Street will become two-way roads, and already you can see work beginning. Those who travel that way will notice parts of Palm Beach Boulevard have intermittently been taken down to one lane. Once the project is complete, you will be able to travel both east and west on 1st Street. If you are coming from downtown, you will be able to take a left to get on the Edison Bridge headed toward North Fort Myers. If you are headed north on Park Avenue, you will be able to make a right onto 1st. Another noticeable improvement: Fort Myers has put in some new sidewalks. The plan is for both streets to have sidewalks and bike lanes once the first phase of the project reaches its slated completion in summer 2022.
