A pedestrian has been killed in a crash in south Fort Myers Thursday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirms that a 50-year-old woman from Key West was killed after being struck by a Dodge pickup truck on McGregor Boulevard south of Camelot Drive.

The crash happened at around 4:30 a.m.

The woman had parked a borrowed Ferrari California on the side of the road after running out of gas.

According to FHP, the woman was crouching next to the rear of the Ferrari when she was struck. Her hazard lights were not on.

The driver, a 60-year-old Cape Coral man, stayed at the scene and told troopers he didn’t see the woman.

“It’s pretty dark,” said Hal Taylor, who works nearby. “There’s not many street lights on this road so just the lights that come off a few buildings.”

Crash investigators say they do not believe speed is a factor.

Justin Eichler, who also works near the crash scene, said it’s dark and you have to be careful along that stretch of road because pedestrians are hard to see.

“You have some street lights here and there but not much not at all,” Eichler said.
