FGCU volunteers installed hundreds of porcelain flowers Friday in memory of the lives that have been lost the coronavirus.

They were placed on the lawn outside the Alliance for the Arts building in Fort Myers.

It’s called “Field of Remembrance: Cathedral of the Sky,” and it was first displayed at FGCU in March.

The installation represents the lives lost to COVID-19 across Southwest Florida.

“At this point in time, we’re at a very challenging point of the pandemic, and many families have been faced with loss,” said Patricia Fay, the FGCU art program coordinator. “And we hope that this installation would provide people the opportunity to walk through and remember those that they’ve loved.”

Organizers hope the community will use the memorial as a place to reflect and remember those we have lost.
