FGCU will begin selling beer and wine

The FGCU Department of Athletics has announced it will begin selling beer and wine at home events on campus.

The sales will be limited to two beverages per person with a valid ID required, according to a news release. The sales will be stopped toward the end of the event.

The first event that will include the sales will be announced in the future.

The items will be available at Alico Arena, Swanson Stadium, the FGCU Soccer Complex and the Softball Complex. Fans over the age of 21 can purchase imported and domestic beers as well as white and red wines.

Ken Kavanagh, director athletics, said for more than a decade other Florida institutions have successfully sold alcohol at their events.

“We feel comfortable with this decision and believe that it will provide an opportunity to enhance the overall game-day experience for many of our fans. In turn, it will be done with procedures designed to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our spectators,” Kavanagh said.
