Two drivers died in a Sunday evening crash just north of the Edison Bridge in North Fort Myers.

A 48-year-old Cape Coral man was headed north on North Tamiami Trail, south of West North Shore Avenue around 5:45 p.m., when he drove off the road and hit a tree in the median. He then drove into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a southbound car driven by a 67-year-old Cape Coral woman.

The man’s car overturned and came to rest on top of the woman’s car. Both drivers died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
