A Fort Myers man was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison for stealing and selling a bicycle.

Lorenzo Gene Dukes, 41, was convicted of dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership to a pawnbroker.

In 2019, Dukes went into a bicycle shop and stole a bike from the showroom floor. The $3,000 bike happened to belong to a person who worked in the store.

The crime was caught on surveillance video. Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated and found that Dukes sold the bike, which had a serial number on it, to a pawn shop for $500.

Dukes has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1997 in Lee County.
