According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, a call was made around 1:17 p.m. regarding a disturbance on Turbak Drive in which the caller said Layni K. Carver, 53, shot at her boyfriend. The man was not hit and ran to a neighbor’s home to seek help. When deputies arrived on scene, they confirmed he was safe, and contacted Carver, who was still inside the home and refused to come out, through a window. After several attempts, to coax her outside outside, CCSO’s SWAT, aviation and crisis negotiation teams were called. Carver was eventually taken into custody, and as of Monday morning faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
