(CREDIT: Fort Myers Police Department) A Fort Myers police officer and a second person were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital after a vehicle crash early Saturday. The crash happened near the intersection of Veronica S. Shoemaker and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr boulevards in Fort Myers at around 3:30 a.m. Fort Myers police spokeswoman Officer Kristin Capuzzi said the officer and the driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries. The officer had the lights and sirens on at the time of the crash, she said. The patrol vehicle landed in a ditch. Capuzzi said the officer was responding to a Shotspotter call as back for another officer who had a suspect at gunpoint. The suspect in the high priority call was taken into custody, she said. No other information is known at this time.
