Community Blood Center said Wednesday it is in need of more blood donors in Collier County.

According to the press release, blood is needed, “to quickly replenish seriously low blood product inventories. All types are needed.”

The shortage is based on a decline in donor visitation as well as the center’s constant need for blood by area patients.

Anyone interested in becoming a donor can visit Community Blood Center-Donor Center at  11190 Health Park Blvd at the NCH North Naples Hospital campus near the Brookdale entrance.

To donate blood, you can visit the Community Blood Center during its normal business operating hours are Monday, Thursday, and Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Visit the Community Blood Center website for more information, including bloodmobile blood drive locations.

According to Community Blood Center, donors can safely give blood every 56 days. The minimum age to give blood is 16 with a parent present. There is no upper age maximum. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, should eat prior to giving blood and must be well hydrated.

Photo ID and face masks are required at donation time. The entire process from registrations to refreshment takes about 45 minutes. The actual blood draw takes 7 minutes.

Each pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. You can visit the website or call (239) 624-4120 for more information. All blood products collected by the Community Blood Center remain within the community to benefit local patients in need. CDC & FDA guidelines are being followed.
