A 21-year-old Bonita Springs man was convicted Tuesday of attacking a man who was sitting on his own porch.

A jury found Wilmar Fernandez Cucul Gomez guilty of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The incident happened Sept. 30, 2020, at a home in Bonita Springs. Two brothers were sitting on their porch drinking beer when Cucul Gomez, a stranger to the men, walked up to the porch and asked for a beer. One man got up and said no. As he turned away, Cucul Gomez went onto the porch and stabbed him three times.

The victim was able to pin Cucul Gomez onto the ground while his brother called 911. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded and deputies arrested Cucul Gomez. The victim survived the stabbing.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 30.
