Lee County families are about to get a lot more room to spread out and play, because the Lehigh Acres Community Park at 1400 W. 5th St. is expanding, and Lee County will share the plans Thursday night.

The expansion is going to be 42 acres. The plan is to build new football and soccer fields, pickleball courts, a disc golf course and a fishing pier, among other things. The subject property is located in Lehigh Acres off Village Lakes Boulevard and borders the western edge of the park.

Jason Schrecengost, the cheer coordinator for the Lehigh Raiders, is excited to expand all the programs they have to offer.

“It’ll be huge, we’ll be able to start doing year-round programs instead of having to share the facility with the Lehigh Acres baseball program, and actually put camps together,” Schrecengost said. “Do a fall program and a summer program, spring program. We can basically keep these kids active year-round.”

That seems to be what excites most of the park’s visitors: giving more options to kids and helping them stay active and out of trouble.

”Yeah, I can’t wait, because when it’s football season, I’ll be over here every Saturday, because I have a grandson who plays and hopefully more of his games will be over here,” said Derek Seay. “Go Timothy!”
